The summer of 2017 was proving to be rather wet and chilly, so I was grateful for a gap between weather fronts which allowed me to get some fresh air and exercise climbing up my local hill, Moel Famau in the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
I was in two minds whether or not to heave my camera gear to the summit that evening, as the sky to the west was pretty blocked up with cloud, and the chance of a dramatic sunset seemed slim.
But ever the optimist, I knuckled down and made the ascent laden down with LowePro and tripod, arriving at the top panting and drenched with sweat. (I really must get out more!)
During my somewhat laboured ascent the sky had perked up considerably, with lovely light and dramatic cloud details glowing in the late light over the ruined stump of the Jubilee Tower right at the top of Moel Famau.
So I positioned myself and tripod mounted camera strategically to include the tower as a silhouette against the cloud wracked sky, with the sun due to set just to the right, and set off recording the stills for my Moel Famau Sunset Time Lapse #1 video, from which this image is just of of hundreds of stills I took on that evening.
All went pretty much according to plan up to sunset, with the tiny figures of fellow climbers popping up on the walls of the tower to add a bit of human interest to the video, and I chose this particular still to present as a stand-alone image thanks to the handily placed figure on top of the tower walls.
