With its proud maritime heritage, the small fishing village of Moelfre on the eastern side of the Isle of Anglesey, just off the North Wales coast, is a delightful place to visit for a walk around the small harbour and cliffs.
And nowhere is that maritime heritage more poignantly on display than at the RNLI lifeboat station, just a short walk north along the headland from Moelfre beach.
Guarding the approaches to Liverpool, and involved in many heroic rescues in times past and present, this photo shows the newly constructed lifeboat station, complete with its launching ramp, ready for action at a moment's notice.
Fortunately there were no calls on the lifeboat crews' services while my wife Liz and I were enjoying our walk on a calm, sunny afternoon one day in late spring, along a cliff path adorned with freshly opened wild flowers, but I must confess I would love to be on hand to watch and film an actual launch.
That must be something to see!
