This spectacular view of the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro, complete with abandoned and decaying Church of Our Lady of Remedy, can only be seen by hauling yourself up the side of the mountain of St John that backs onto the town of Kotor itself.
Paying a three Euro entrance fee gives you access to the zizag series of worn and cracked steps leading up to this point and beyond, right up to the fort of St John near the mountain top.
I didn't drag myself and my camera gear up that far in the 35ÂșC heat, as I found this view to be quite inspiring enough thank you!
In all seriousness though, I found the view out over this crumbling relic of a church to be just stunning, and I've since seen the same view in many tourist guides advertising the delights of Montenegro, so I'm in agreement with the professional photographers for once.
I took the photo in early afternoon - not the ideal time, but cruise ship departure times are somewhat inflexible - so there was a lot of haze present which I cut through somewhat with the aid of my trusty polarising filter, which also brought out the beautiful colour of the sea.
The polariser is the one filter I wouldn't be without, even in this digital age.
