Have you noticed how different parts of the world and different cultures have a different primary colour associated with them.
For me, the primary colour of the eastern Mediterranean is red.
Red is such a dominant colour that just a small amount in a scene will grab your attention, a bit like a single chilli pepper in the middle of a bowl of stew, and towns in this part of the world seem to go for red tiled roofs in a big way, hence the association with that particular colour.
I photographed this example of a wonderfully aged red tile roof and chimney while walking around the town of Kotor in Montenegro. I love the combination of the vibrantly coloured red tiles, set off against the surrounding decating grey stonework.
The patches of highlight and shadow from the midday sun just add to the overall appeal of this scene for me, and a couple of cheeky pigeons finish it all off nicely.
