There's a real pleasure to be had from getting up early on a winter's morn and going out for a local hike before work. The air seems that much crisper and clearer in winter, and the cold is most invigorating.
With a cloudless sky the twilight glow as dawn approaches is a sight to behold, with colours changing by the minute, from indigo overhead, through blues and magentas to orange on the horizon.
This particular pre-dawn ramble took me up the slopes of Moel Famau, my local hill, which gave me a fantastic view over the heather to the slightly smaller peak of Foel Ffenli, the site of an iron age fort, to the south. The waning moon hung pendulously in the lightening sky, in just the right spot for a photograph, so I paused in my climb and took the time to just enjoy the sight before turning for home and then off to work.
What a way to start the day!
