Full moon #5

Full moon over the sea

The story behind this image

This image shows the difficulty of trying to keep detail in a very bright moon, and a very dark foreground.

Even using a 3 stop ND grad filter I couldn't get any detail in the moon so late after sunset. What I should have done was take this shot when the moon was much lower in the sky, with correspondingly less contrast between the moon and the land.

Even so, I like this image for its stark graphic quality, and the way the moonlight reflects off the calm sea.
