One of the side benefits of photography is a growing appreciation of light. The Bible tells us that right back at the beginning of creation God said 'let there be light', and we know that without light to power photosynthesis earth would be a barren, dead planet.
But as a hobbyist photographer I've come to appreciate - no - take delight in - light in all its forms. Indeed, as I sit writing these thoughts the sun has just broken through the clouds outside my window and is highlighting buildings and trees in a glowing spectacle that is all the more intense in that it will be so brief. Even now the light is fading again after just a few seconds of brilliance.
Today's photo, taken from my holiday balcony overlooking Schladming and the Dachstein Massiv, and with almost the exact same composition as the dawn photo shown below, illustrates this point wonderfully.
This is essentially the same photo, the only diference is the quality of light.
With the sun now higher in the sky, colour, rather than tonality, is the dominant theme of this image, and the feel of the picture is much more light hearted and 'postcardy' the the more brooding ambience of the previous dawn photo.
Light - what a wonderful phenonemon, and something I thank God for every day (well, almost)!
