In most things in life, timing is everything.
Liz and I were on holiday at Schladming in Austria last summer, lured by the promise of spectacular scenery and great walking.
One of the aspects of Austria we hoped to experience were the high alpine meadows filled with wild flowers (think 'Sound of Music'), but at the time we chose for our holiday most of these had died off.
What a shame, but we've only ourselves to blame due to lack of planning and research.
We did find the odd pocket of slightly knackered looking flowers here and there, such as these, photographed on the way back down from our day's hiking the Wilde Wasser trail, but nothing like what we'd hoped to see.
Still, I couldn't complain at the rest of the view, especially with those gorgeous bands of light tracking across the mountains and meadows.
I guess we'll just have to go back again in the spring next time!
