Towards the end of the summer of 2020 my wife Liz and I decided to explore the coastline of the Wirral Peninsula, starting at West Kirby and driving along through Hoylake, Leasowe, Wallasey and on to New Brighton, right at the point where the River Mersey enters the Irish Sea.
New Brighton proved to be quite an interesting stop, with views out over the Mersey to the huge cranes of the Liverpool 2 Container Terminal on the opposite shore.
But New Brighton itself had a couple of interesting features that caught my photographic eye, namely the New Brighton lighthouse and the rather strange Fort Perch Rock fortress, pictured here under the bright afternoon sun with the lighthouse in the background.
I don't know what the extra cabins on top of the fort are for - perhaps someone can enlighten me?
