A weak gleam of late afternoon sun paints colour and form over the sleepy Normandy seaside town of Etretat as Liz and I take on the view from the northern headland.
Across the bay the famous 'elephant trunk' rock arch, so beloved of artists, glows faintly in the brief passage of the sun between cloud banks out over the channel as I feverishly try and capture the images needed for this stitched panorama before the light goes.
Success! And just a few minutes later the sun is gone and the light returns to its default flat greyness, but for a few moments we were treated to a scene of serene beauty.
No wonder artists, such as Monet, painted in this place.
