This is the shapely conical mountain of Pen yr Ole Wen, the southernmost peak of the Carneddau range in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales.
Pen yr Ole Wen sits in a very picturesque spot, right at the corner between the lovely Nant Ffrancon valley and Ogwen valley, and you can often see (and hear!) the fast jets from RAF Valley as they bank hard around the mountain as part of their low flying training.
I've never climbed Pen yr Ole Wen, as the path to the top goes pretty much straight up the side of the mountain, which is a bit too much of a steep gradient for me, especially when carrying a good few kilos of photographic equipment.
Fortunately though, Pen yr Ole Wen looks great from the bottom, and I just needed to stagger a few paces to the shoreline of Llyn Ogwen to capture this image of the mountain, framed by a twisted old tree by the waters of the lake on a lovely sunny day in May.
