The story behind this image

Llandudno, on the North Wales coast, is a charming seaside town steeped in Victoriana, and is a place that my wife Liz and I love to visit for a stroll along the prom.

Walking along the prom in the bright sunshine is all very nice, but for serious photography I usually turn up before dawn. (Without Liz, who has a deep seated aversion to 3am starts!)

This part of the coast is north facing, so is ideally placed for seeing and photographing stunning sunrises during the summer months. There's pleny of features to include in an early morning composition, such as the pier I've used in this pre-sunrise study.

This shot was taken at low tide, allowing me to use foreground rocks and mussell beds in the foreground, while the dramatic sillhoutte of the pier itself gives depth and meaning to the scene.
