As well as being a fun seaside resort, Llandudno is a place where one can come to reflect and think.
When the weather's bad, or it's teatime and the crowds have thinned on the pier, it's nice just to sit on one of the many memorial benches that line the balustrade, look out to sea and contemplate one's life and place in the grand scheme of things.
I'm obviously not the only one who appreciates this quieter, more reflective side of Llandudno. Reading the plaques on the benches I get a real sense of the fondness that those remembered had of their time spent here, and also of the love that their families and friends hold for them, expressed in words engraved on brass and screwed into the backs of the benches.
Some of the benches also boast floral displays, renewed from time to time as family members find time to visit.
I was particularly drawn to this display of fading red flowers, thoughtfully placed in a special holder on one of the benches not too long ago. (Flowers don't last long here).
The slightly decayed, but still poignant and beautiful, bunch of flowers, matched in my mind the pervading feel of Llandudno itself. Slightly jaded and worn, but much loved by those who appreciate the town's unique atmosphere.
I wonder what would be written on a plaque about me by my family and friends after I'm dead and gone to be with my Lord?
Something touching I hope.
