For normal people, a trip to the seaside is supposed to involve sunshine and warmth, with ice creams and sun cream thrown in for good measure.
However, photographers like me aren't classed as normal people, and a trip to the seaside is much more satisfying when there's a good storm in progress, or alternating bands of rain and sun giving that wonderful chiaroscuro lighting that we all crave.
Such was the case this day, on the pier at Llandudno on the North Wales coast, with rain streaming down and storm clouds moving inland over Snowdonia, with a beautifully corroded cast iron ballustrade providing foreground interest and a fantastic leading line through the image to the weather beyond.
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!
