Of all the flowers that bloom in my garden (thanks to my wife Liz) I think the poppy is my favourite, with its delicate, translucent petals fluttering in the breeze while glowing bright orange in the light of the sun.
But all too soon the petals fade and die, leaving the seed head exposed.
However, the poppy seed head is a lovely thing in its own right, with its vivid colour and rigid geometric pattern, as pictured here.
And the good thing is that the whole flowering cycle will be repeated next year.
Something to look forward to during the cold, dark winter months!
