After a long spell of dismal weather the morning of 11th December 2012 dawned ice cold with clear skies.
So an hour before sunrise I found myself on the banks of the river Dee at Queensferry, which is handily placed between home and work for me.
This was a great morning to be out photographing, as the moon was in its waning crescent phase, which meant it rose on the eastern horizon just before the sun itself came up.
At this time in the morning the eastern sky was glowing with the transition to orange twilight from the deep blue of night, which was a beautiful complimentary colour combination.
To flesh out the composition of this particular image, I used a pylon and power transmission lines to frame the moon and add some necessary structure to the image.
The pylon was lit by sodium streetlights from the nearby dual carriageway, giving the wooden poles an orange colour that nicely matched the glow on the horizon.
