There's a time and a place for everything, so they say.
Well, the time and place for this lovely image of a small private harbour was just at sunset on a cold winter's eve standing on the Anglesey shore of the Menai Straits.
Why sunset?
Well that's because the tone and quality of the light at this time of day can be just sublime, as the low angled sunlight is filtered through more and more atmosphere, losing its blue wavelengths in the process until just the oranges and mauves are left to light up the sky with a roseate glow.
Sunset and sunrise are also the times when you're most likely to get calm conditions for those all important reflections.
Why winter?
In winter, in the northern hemisphere, the sun sets to the southwest, which is the direction I wanted to take this photo in. If I'd tried this in summer then the sun would be setting far to the right out of the frame of this image and that lovely colour and drama wouldn't be in the picture.
Why the Menai Straits?
Why not! It's one of the most beautiful and tranquil places on earth. I know I'm biased about the beauties of North Wales, but I've got good reason to be so no apologies there.
