The story behind this image

I'd walked past this view on many occasions in the past, on a ramble round the Loggerheads Country Park with my wife Liz, but never stopped to really look at it before.

Loggerheads is a typical example of North Wales scenery, with woods, a river and limestone escarpments all jammed close together, but for me it's the river that provides most of my photographic inspiration at this location.

Getting back to the view shown here, just a few metres away from the visitor's centre.

The main reason I'd nver stopped to photograph it before is that I considered it just too messy. I like simple compositions in my landscape photos and this view just didn't appeal.

That is, until I stopped thinking about it in colour and started to consider it in terms of shapes and tonalities only.

A monochrome version made much more sense to me, as one of the confusing elements, the mix of colours, would have been removed.

So I took the photo while Liz and I were walking by, and lo and behold, an uninspiring mess that was the original colour file became much more pleasant and meaningful to look at once converted to a warm toned monochrome in Adobe Lightroom.
