After a long spell of dismal weather the morning of 11th December 2012 dawned ice cold with clear skies.
So an hour before sunrise I found myself on the banks of the river Dee at Queensferry, which is handily placed between home and work for me.
I'm glad I made the effort, as the colours in the pre-dawn sky were fantastic, reflecting in the river Dee as it runs from the sea to Chester a few miles away.
A vanishing point was handily provided by a line of pylons, sillhouetted against the glowing orange sky, and I even saw a bore race up the river at the turn of the tide.
Some mornings are just special.
