En route from Mold for a winter visit to my parents in Chirk on the Wales - England border I drove over a very impressive road bridge spanning the river Dee valley.
Briefly looking down I was greeted by a glimpse of this stark, monochrome scenery, with the black waters of the river curving sinuously through the snow covered trees on either bank.
Needless to say I turned around at the first available opportunity, parked up near the bridge and walked out onto the span, setting up camera and tripod as I went.
I was so impressed by the beauty of the view below me that I must have taken half a dozen exposures of different compositions of river and trees before packing everything away and carrying on to my parents house.
I must point out in this digital age that half a dozen exposures of a single scene was quite something back in my Velvia film days when this image was taken, as the cost of the film and processing was prohibitive.
Anyhow, of all the different photos taken, this one is my favourite, and it's also the simplest in terms of the arrangement of the river and trees.
