The story behind this image

One of the things Liz and I were really looking forward to doing during our vacation in Arizona was driving on the highways. We had a rented Ford Escape which was really comfortable and we wanted to experience those endless roads that we'd seen in the movies.

Well Arizona didn't disappoint! Here's an example of evocative highway photography, showing the iconic 'vanishing point' view. The only difficulty in taking these pictures was avoiding the traffic, with Liz shouting warnings while I was crouched in the middle of the road with a wide angled lens, oblivious to everything except the composition in the viewfinder. Don't try this on the M6 by the way!

There are some truly beautiful roads to be travelled in Arizona. This photo was taken on the I180 as it traverses the Kaibab National Forest while heading northwards from Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon. What a place!
