During our hikes around Sedona, Arizona, my wife Liz and I found many examples of quite large trees that were growing out of solid rock, with no apparent means of getting nourishment or water.
The exposed roots of these trees made for fascinating photographic subjects, contrasting the living wood against the unyielding stone.
This particular example was particularly photogenic.
