The Alpine Visitor Centre, at just under 12,000 feet above sea level, high in the Rocky Mountains, was certainly a very popular destination when my wife Liz and I visited during the last couple of weeks in September.
We were staying for two weeks in Estes Park, Colorado, the gateway to the Rocky Mountain National Park, and we made sure that we got maximum value for money from our twenty dollar weekly pass, with daily excursions around the park's various beauty spots.
We drove and hiked to many beautiful places, with the Alpine Visitor Centre, along the magnificent Trail Ridge Road, being one of our favourites.
The centre was quite packed with tourists like ourselves every time we visited, and why not, with stunning views like this one, looking down the Falls River valley decked out in the russet colours of Autumn to enjoy.
I'm afraid the photo just doesn't do justice to the sheer majesty and grandeur (and size) of the Rockies.
You can only truly appreciate the place by being there.
Now where did I put my passport?
