When my wife Liz and I were planning our holiday to the United States one of her 'must see' criteria was fall colours.
High on my list of priorities were mountains and lakes, so the Rocky Mountain National Park at the end of September was the obvious place to go.
Neither of us were disappointed, and most of the time we got to see mountains, lakes and the glorious autumn colours of aspens and cottonwood trees all at the same time.
One of our favourite locations for looking at and photographing the colours was Bear Lake and its surrounding trails, and we re-visited this area multiple times during our two week stay.
And two weeks was all it took for the fall colours to start, peak, and fade away as the leaves fell from the trees at the onset of winter.
So we were doubly blessed to be in such a stunning place at just the right time of year and to see such beauty first hand.
The photos only do marginal justice to the experience of being there.
