The last vestiges of snow on Hallett Peak provided a necessary focal point for this image of Bierstadt Lake, high up at 9,500 feet in the Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.
My wife Liz and I had hiked up to Bierstadt from Bear Lake, passing through groves of golden aspens and resinous scented pines to reach this beautiful spot.
The warm colours of the Autumn grasses by the side of the lake were rich and vibrant, especially when viewed through my polarising filter, and contrasted perfectly with the cerulean blue of the sky above the high peaks.
The peace and beauty of this wonderful piece of God's creation can't really be conveyed in a mere photograph, but I've tried my best!
