A little bit to the east of the Rocky Mountains lies the Brainard Lake Recreation Area, a stunning slice of wilderness at over 10,000 feet above sea level.
Liz and I paid two visits there during our stay in the area.
The first time saw us panting our way from the trailhead car park to the lake shore and no further, as we ran out of breath, having only just arrived from our normal sea level existence a couple of days previously.
Never mind though, as the views from this spot were stunning, looking west towards the high peaks of the Rockies which were reflecting in the still waters of the lake.
I took the opportunity of our enforced rest to shoot half and hours worth of stills for my time lapse video Rocky Mountain Time Lapse #6, and this individual image was taken from the beginning of the shoot, before heavy storm clouds rolled across the sky and blotted out the lovely patches of light shining on the peaks beyond the lake.
During that half hour the weather changed completely, and we even had the only rain shower of our two week stay while we were eating and filming in this most dramatic of locations.
