One of the things Liz and I were hoping to see during our two week adventure in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park was a glacier.
However, visiting during late September, almost all the snow had melted, with just a few small glacier fragments remaining at high altitude.
This residual glacier was by the side of the Alpine Visitor Centre, up at 12,000 feet above sea level, and was the closest we got during our stay.
Even so, although there was only a very small part of the glacier left, the snow stood out very dramatically against the dark brown alpine tundra, and was well worth photographing.
This view shows the glacier isolated against the slope, with a lovely arrangement of lines, colours and textures defining the composition.
