One of the many things I loved doing during Liz's and my two week holiday in Estes Park, Colorado, was driving along the roads in the Rocky Mountain National Park.
There aren't many roads in the park, but what is lacking in quantity is more than made up for in quality.
I reckon the twenty dollars we paid for a seven day vehicle pass was the best enjoyment factor per dollar that I've ever known.
One of the most spectacular drives we enjoyed was the Trail Ridge Road.
Topping out at just over 12,000 feet above sea level, this is the highest paved road in the United States, and spends most of the winter months closed under twenty foot snow drifts.
The snow hadn't yet arrived when Liz and I were there during the last two weeks of September 2015, so we took full advantage to drive this road on several occasions, driving from one pull in to the next and stopping to admire the views in the thin, cold air.
This photo was taken from one of the highest stopping places, and shows the road disappearing off towards the high peaks to the north.
I took quite a few photos here, both with and without the stop sign, and when I came to review the images back home in North Wales, the pictures with the red stop sign were much more visually arresting than those without, hence this final image from that fantastic road.
