One of the more strenuous hikes that my wife Liz and I enjoyed during out two weeks spent exploring the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado was along the Mills Lake Trail.
Starting at the Glacier Gorge trailhead, we made our way along the trail up to the lovely Alberta Falls, then, feeling brave, we carried on up towards Mills Lake.
It was quite a trek in the thin air, but we passed through some gorgeous scenery, with the aspen trees displaying all their autumn finery.
About halfway up the trail between Alberta Falls and Mills Lake we paused for a few minutes while I photographed this delightful little waterfall, surrounded by aspens.
Because it was sunny day the contrast in the scene was too great for my camera to record in a single frame, with the bright water blowing out very easily.
So, with my camera firmly bolted to my tripod (I knew I'd carried up the trail for a reason!) I took five separate exposures, each a stop apart, for subsequent high dynamic range (HDR) processing in Adobe Lightroom.
Back home in North Wales I was looking at Erik Stensland's Images of the Rocky Mountain National Park website, and I found the selfsame image there.
It's nice to know that I noticed the same view as the local professional!
