How about this for a place by the sea then?!
This is a stone building on the old seafront harbour at Lerwick in the Shetland Islands, off the north coast of Scotland, pictured here on a glorious sunny day with light winds and a calm sea.
I wonder what it's like in one of these houses when an Atlantic storm blows in.
Of all the harbours that Liz and I visited on our cruise to Iceland and back on board the P&O liner Azura, we both found Lerwick to be by far the nicest.
Maybe it was the sunny weather, maybe the picturesque old buildings, or maybe the abundance of shops selling locally produced wool, but there was just a pervading sense of rightness in the town that was very hard to pin down to one factor.
Anyhow, we were both glad to be there, and really enjoyed our time exploring the nooks and crannies opf this charming place.
I spent most of my time admiring and photographing the old buildings along the seafront, full of character in a lovely setting with azure waters and blue skies punctuated with fluffy white cumulus clouds.
This view was one of my favourites, with the old rowing boat and Viking longboat (a replica, I presume!) providing a couple of interesting features on which to rest the eye.
