What an amazing location to have your home!
This is the rocky foreshore at Lerwick, the capital town of the Shetland Islands, a fair way to the north of Scotland and out in the North Atlantic ocean.
Liz and I spent a happy few hours exploring the beauties of this charming seaside town towards the end of our cruise to Iceland and back on board the P&O liner Azura, which was anchored offshore, being too big to fit into the small harbour.
Maybe it was the sunshine, after so many grey days previously, or maybe it was the lovely old buildings, or maybe even the abundance of shops selling locally produced wool, but whatever it was, Lerwick was definately the nicest port that we called at during our cruise.
One of the main attractions for me was the rocky foreshore, with an old seawall and buildings built right up against the sea, providing a lovely juxtaposition of man-made and natural elements, topped off with a blue sky and fluffy white cumulus clouds.
Nice enough on a calm day like this was, but I wonder what it's like here when there's an Atlantic storm blowing in - that must be something to see!
