The story behind this image

A crisp, sunny winter's day early in January 2017, and there's only one place in the world to be - the beautiful Snowdonia National Park in North Wales.

Only an hour or so's drive from our home, and my wife Liz and I can be enjoying views like this stunning vista of the Snowdon Horseshoe from the shores of Llyn Mymbyr.

With the low angled winter sun casting a golden glow over the bracken covered slopes bounding the lake, while grazing the majestic snow capped peaks in the background, the conditions were just perfect for capturing on camera.

The easy way to photograph this scene would have been with a single exposure, cropped later to give this panoramic format.

But I had in mind a potential large, highly detailed print at some point in the future, so instead of capturing just a single exposure I took a series of overlapping frames, combining them using the 'Merge to Panorama' function in Adobe Lightroom before finishing off in Photoshop.

The resulting very high resolution file looks amazing, and although I haven't yet had the nerve to print it I'm looking forward to seeing it printed out in all its glory.
