Early July 2017 and my wife Liz and I were enjoying a coffee with a couple of friends at the end of Llandudno pier on the North Wales coast when, much to our suprise, an old wooden steamship, the Balmoral, rounded the Great Orme and steamed up to dock at the end of the pier, having made a turn around in Llandudno Bay.
Naturally I wasn't going to miss photographing this magnificent piece of maritime history, and took a few dozen images of the Balmoral's approach and docking while my coffee sat going cold on the table in front of me.
I selected this frame as the best of the bunch, with the stern of the steamer just clear of the Little Orme headland, and Llandudno pier just out of the view to the left.
What an unexpected treat!
