Driving along Marine Drive, which runs around the edge of the Great Orme headland on the North Wales coast at Llandudno, gives some great views out over the Irish Sea.
Facing west, you can see some great sunsets from here and there are plenty of places to stop and admire or photograph the view.
That's what Liz and I were doing one stormy evening on one of our many excursions to the seaside for a bit of R&R.
To be honest, the light wasn't great, with heavy cloud and high winds the order of the evening, and I wasn't expecting to photograph anything.
But as you know, things can change in an instant on the North Wales coast, and as we rounded a corner we were faced with this dramatic scene, as the setting sun found chinks in the clouds' armour and sent dazzling rays blasting through the overcast to spotlight the sea below.
Needless to say the car was stopped and it was out with the camera, tripod and assorted kit. A quick sprint to the cliff edge and I managed a couple of exposures of the drama unfolding in front of me as the wind howled around my ears.
It was so windy I had to actually hold onto the tripod to stop it blowing over, and a few seconds later the clouds closed up again and the show was at an end.
We hung around for a few minutes hoping for more but it was not to be.
Never mind though, as the couple of shots I did manage to get were just full of the drama of the moment.
