This photo shows a dramatic sunset over the power station on the Dee estuary.
Taken on the longest day of the year has allowed the sun to move further to the north (we're looking west here of course) and to set in a much more dramatic location than earlier in the year.
The combination of an evening with relatively clear skies and such a powerful view was too good to resist, and knowing about these local hidden gems of locations certainly helps when it comes to making a snap decision about a place to go for a shot of evening photography.
So there I was on the Dock Road at Connah's Quay for two hours, sharing the river bank with a group of friendly anglers as I shot a few hundred images for a timelapse video of the sunset on my Canon.
However, this image was shot handheld on my Nikon 3100 while the Canon was clicking away every ten seconds. I'm really pleased with how the Nikon lens and camera combination performs. Nice crisp images and good colour rendition make it a very useful second camera.
