The story behind this image

Everywhere you look on Tenerife you see evidence of volcanic activity, and none more so than at the coast, where the relentless Atlantic Ocean pounds the lava into beautifully sculpted boulders of alluring blacks and greys.

This particular piece of coast lies close to Los Abrigos to the south of the island, in amongst the hotels, bars and restaurants of the tourist strip.

A somewhat perilous descent amongst the slippery rocks got me to the edge of the ocean, where the white foam of the breaking waves formed a lovely contrast to the glistening basalt.
