High above the beaches and resorts of Tenerife's coastline lies the other-wordly volcanic landscape of the Teide National Park.
Dominated by the 12,000ft high cone of Mount Teide, which tends to draw the eye somewhat, nevertheless there's plenty of colourful and shapely volcanic features to enjoy apart from the mountain itself.
During Liz's and my week long winter break on the island we made two full day excursions up to the National Park, just amazed at the scale and substance of the scenery laid out before us.
One of the strangest locations we explored was the Minas de San Jose, high up in the ancient caldera surrounding Mount Teide.
With randon multi-hued rocks strewn around a competely alien landscape made up of different colours of pea sized pumice stones, we spent a good hour here just wandering around amazed at what a volcano could do.
Mind you, I wasn't too amazed to forget to take a few photos!
