The hill walks around North Wales, where I live, are home to some fantastically sculpted trees. These aren't your manicured and cared for lowland versions, but they're weather beaten, twisted and deformed by relentless winds, stunted by freezing winters and drenched by the all pervading rain we get in this part of the world.
This particular tree is by the side of the path that runs from Cilcain up to Offa's Dyke which straddles the Clwydian range of hills. I don't know how long it's fought for its existence up here, but the hardships of its life are plain for all to see.
