Walking back to the layby where our car was parked, by the side of Thirlemere in England's Lake District, my wife Liz and I spotted this beautifully shaped tree, resplendent in its autumn finery.
While Liz was taking quick photos of it on her smartphone, with a view to a watercolour at a later date, I adpoted amuch slower approach, carefully positioning myself plus camera to the best effect.
That's one of the differences between painting and photography, as Liz can put the tree anywhere she wants when she comes to paint it, leaving out background clutter and letting her imagination run wild.
I'm a bit more constrained, as this image was going to be the end product of my endeavours, so I'd better get it right when I take the photo as moving things around later, while possible, takes an inordinate amount of time in PhotoShop.
Anyhow, I have to confess to at least some artistic interpretation in this image, in terms of colour and blur manipulations. After all, I want to make my artistic input even though I'm not doing a painting.
