Arizona, in the Southwest USA, is an astounding area, both in terms of its weather and its geology.
My wife Liz and I had taken a day trip from where we were staying in Sedona and headed east to explore the painted desert and the Petrified Forest National Park. Both places were amazing but the petrified forest was absolutely unreal. We could have been on the surface of Mars if it wasn't for these crazy petrified trees sticking out of the ground everywhere we looked.
The colours, heat, searing wind and sheer eerieness of the place all combined to make the visit something I'll remember for a long time. The photos help as well, or course!
