The story behind this image

This stunning view is from a limestone escarpment in Loggerheads Country Park, about five miles from my home in Mold, North Wales.

Conditions like this, with bright sun on snow, occur only one or two days a year in this part of the world so I always try and make the most of them photographically when they happen although, to be honest, it's a joy just to be out in conditions like these. Other people think so to judging by all the tracks in the snow.

Photographing sunlit snow with slide film was always a combination of guesswork, experience and lots of expensive bracketing to get the exposure just right.

Using digital it's sooooo much easier to get a good result, what with histograms to look at and being able to bracket exposures at no cost.

I find it much more enjoyable and immediate than the old film days, and a lot easier on the wallet too!
