The story behind this image

As dawn arrives on the slopes of Moel Famau in North Wales the first rays of golden sunlight splash through the densely packed pines, casting highlights and shadows in a wonderful random and constantly changing drama.

Birds greet the arrival of a new day in an explosion of sound and life, and I'm there to revel in sensory overload as waves of joy and peace flood through me.

It's a real discipline to focus on capturing the joy of first light in a photograph, hopefully in a meaningful way that will convey just some of the feeling I'm experiencing being there. I've learnt that, to sucessfully photograph light in a way that emphasises the its emotional content, you have to set the light against dark, and this is what I did here, using unlit dark trees to contrast the trees that were glowing in the morning sun.

As a Christian, I believe that God created light with just a spoken word, and I can certainly see something of His divine nature on mornings like these.
