Parked up at the side of Thirlemere, one of the Lake District's less visited areas, on a sunny afternoon in late Autumn must be one of the best places in the world to be at this time of year.
As Liz and I walked through the woods by the side of the lake the low sun filtered through the trees, picking out the edges of tree trunks and giving the warm hued leaves a welcoming glow that I couldn't resist photographing.
Of course, you can't just point your camera anywhere and expect to get a meaningful photo, so I waited until I had a reasonable composition before pressing the shutter release.
On reviewing the image there was a lot of fine detail in the frame that tended to distract from the colours, which were the main reason for taking the photo in the first place.
So a partial application of an 'Orton' effect in Photoshop was the order of the day, which blurred over the fine details and re-emphasised the colours, bringing the final image in line with how Li zand I actually experienced our walk through the woods that lovely afternoon.
