The colours, smells and sounds of Autumn in the Lake District are just delightful, which is why my wife Liz and I decided on a week's break up there in early November.
Well the lakes were as beautiful as ever, but sunshine was very hard to come by so we made the most of it when we got some.
One of the few afternoons with the promise of decent weather found us in the woods by the side of Thirlemere, listening to birdsong and watching as the sun played hide and seek with the clouds overhead.
Occasionally a ray of sunlight would penetrate to the bit of wood where we were, sidelighting the moss covered trees giving a beautiful glowing effect on the trunks and branches.
Needless to say I was on hand with camera to record these fleeting moments of luminosity.
It's good to have a photo of these special occasions, as memory fades so quickly.
