Aira Force is an impressive series of waterfalls, running eventually into Ullswater, one of the Lake District's most lovely stretches of water.
Around the river are numerous woodland paths which wind past some lovely old oak trees, all bent and knarled with the harsh weather you get in these northerly climes.
This particular arrangement of branches caught my eye due to fantastic twisted shapes and moss covering that gave the whole scene a very 'Tolkienish' ambiance. You could almost expect to see dwarves or elves flitting along the paths if you stay still for long enough.
The autumn colours of the oak leaves, just before they were due to drop was a delight also, and I only wish that a mere photograph could convey all the sensory pleasure of being in such a place at such a time.
