In a photographic composition, three is often the magic number, providing a visual order and cohesion that other numbers of elements in an image can fail to convey.
I photographed these three tree trunks during a walk with my wife Liz though one of our local beauty spots, Wepre Park in Connah's Quay, North East Wales.
To get this shot I deliberately used a long lens to include just the three trees in the shot, with the three vertical lines providing the structure and subject.
Back home in post processing I saw that the image had potential, but the three tree trunks were lost somewhat in a haze of greenery and the composition lacked the clarity I wanted to achieve.
So a conversion to monochrome, with selective lightening and darkening of the surrounding foliage, allowed the trees to stand out much more clearly, taking centre stage in the final picture, as was my intent when I originally pressed the shutter.
