Sitting in the back seat of my car, parked up on Llandudno's West Shore, watching as the howling gale tears the tops of the storm tossed breakers rolling in almost to the wheels of my vehicle.
It's the winter of 2013/14 and the high tides, storm surges and freak waves have played havoc with the coastline in this part of the world.
Actually, things had calmed down a lot when Liz and I ventured out to one of our favourite spots, but it was still too rough to get out of the car, with wind, rain and spray buffeting us from all directions.
We watched as the setting sun found an all too brief opening in the roiling clouds stretching out to the western horizon, and golden beams of light picked out the windblown spray streaming off the tops of the incoming breakers.
Too good an opportunity to miss, photographically speaking, so still from inside the car I braced my long telephoto lens against the open window, switched on the lens stabilisation and shot away until the light show ended as the clouds moved over the sun once again.
Time for a retreat to the local cafe for a warming mug of coffee, out of the wind and rain.
