The story behind this image

A British seaside town is a unique and very quirky environment, where you'll find architeture and artifacts that you wouldn't find in inland towns.

Llandudno, on the North Wales coast is one such town. Originally aimed at well heeled Victorian holiday goers, the promenade and pier have retained much of their olde worlde charm over the decades, resisting the onslaught of amusement arcdes and other tawdry entertainments that have blighted other resorts along this stretch of coast.

Take a stroll along the pier on a sunny afternoon and you'll enter a world of genteel decay that's most attractive to a photographer's eye, as the never ending battle against the effects of the weather and sea are on display in the endless cycle of rust and re-paint on the structure's ironwork.

Scattered along the pier are a collection of those seaside artifacts I was talking about earlier, some of which are shown here but which no-one ever seems to use.

But a trip to the seaside just wouldn't be the same without these relics, now would it?
