A very grey day at West Kirby found my wife Liz and I walking around the seawall of the wonderful Marine Lake, me with camera in hand on the offchance of seeing something meaningful to photograph.
Usually at the coast I'll be looking for dramatic cloudscapes to add dynamism to my composition, but on this particular day I needed to have a re-think about how I normally try and construct a photograph, and instead of filling the frame with interest and action I decided on a much more minimalist approach, making far more use of negative space than I would usually employ.
This re-think resulted in this rather arresting image, with just a narrow band of houses across the middle of the frame, sandwiched top and bottom with almost the featureless grey sky and grey water.
Sometimes less really is more!

Exposure - 1/125 sec @ f8, ISO100
Filters - 2 stop neutral density graduated filter used to balance the exposure between the sky and water.

Image enhancements - Adobe Lightroom
Comments - Handheld exposure with image stabilisation.
