During our two week stay spent exploring the beautiful landscapes and coastlines of Devon and Cornwall my wife Liz and I drove past Widemouth Bay on the Atlantic facing coast of North Cornwall on a number of occasions, heading for less well developed bays and inlets further south.
So it was only towards the end of our stay that we actually stopped here for a cliff walk and stroll along the extensive surfing beach.
Stopping in a convenient car park high up on the cliffs just to the north of Widemouth Bay we walked down the gently sloping clifftop path and onto the extensive sandy beach, revealed in all its glory at low tide.
The sun had just set as we strolled together along the damp sand, with wet patches of tidal runoff reflecting the orange and blue hues of the twilight sky along the distant horizon as bands of clouds drifted by overhead.
I've tried to capture the beauty and atmosphere of that evening at Widemouth Bay in this panoramic collage, and although this image achieves that to some degree, nothing will come close to actually being there.
